For true love King Thrushbeard teaches the King's daughter the fruits of humility and hard work after she mocks him and many other suitors she deems unworthy for marriage in her haughty and prideful state. After refusing to pick a husband from the finest men in the land, her father forces her to marry a beggar and banishes her from the Kingdom. She is led into the simplest of lives where she is expected to tend to her own needs as well as the needs of her new husband. Constantly ruing her bad behavior, she works hard to transform her selfish ways, and is finally rewarded with the discovery that the beggar she has married is in fact the very man she mocked, King Thrushbeard, who presides over a vast Kingdom and makes the finest of husbands.
